We are four YA/MG authors with a traveling trivia game (complete with prizes!) that we’d love to share with your teen and tween patrons.
How well do you know Harry Potter, the Hunger Games, or The Lightning Thief? If you’re a fan of YA and MG books, don’t miss Story Trivia! Test your knowledge for fabulous prizes like books, book-themed prize packs, gift certificates, and more! After the game, Portland authors Robin Herrera, Chris Struyk-Bonn, Heidi Schulz, and Mary Elizabeth Summer will stick around to read from their books and answer a few audience questions. If you’re a reader, you’re a winner!
We have two sets of trivia questions, one aimed at teens and one aimed at tweens. The teen version combines a few questions about middle-grade novels with a larger majority of questions about YA novels. The tween version is all MG-novel questions.
We presented with great success at the Hollywood Library in the Multnomah County Library system.
Targeted age group: 9-13 or 14-18
Maximum enrollment: 30
Length of program: 1 hour
Supplies/equipment/staff needed: A screen for a portable projector, and a table to set the projector on
Space needed: A room would be ideal as the trivia part can get rather noisy, but anywhere that can support a projector is doable.
Cost (professional fee, materials costs, travel costs, etc.): We are happy to do this at no charge.
More about us authors
Mary Elizabeth Summer contributes to the delinquency of minors by writing books about unruly teenagers with criminal leanings. She has a BA in creative writing from Wells College, and her philosophy on life is “you can never go wrong with sriracha sauce.” She lives in Portland Oregon with her wife, their daughter, and their evil overlor—er, cat. TRUST ME, I’M LYING is her debut novel.
Chris Struyk-Bonn is originally from Iowa but now lives in Portland Oregon with her two boys, who keep her on her toes with soccer balls in every room and darts on all the windows. She also has three cats, one of whom is twenty pounds (the treadmill regimen just isn’t working). Reading and writing young adult literature is her favorite past time. WHISPER is her debut novel.
Robin Herrera is currently living in Portland Oregon. She has one cat and plans for many more. She also has one fiancé and plans for absolutely no more. She reads a lot of books, especially graphic novels. She went to Mills College for her undergraduate degree, and to Vermont College of Fine Arts for a master’s degree. She highly recommends both. She worked for six years as an after-school teacher, but now works at Oni Press, a comic publishing company. HOPE IS A FERRIS WHEEL is her debut novel.
Heidi Schulz lies to children for fun and profit. Her debut novel for middle grade readers, HOOK’S REVENGE, will be published by Disney•Hyperion on September 16, 2014. A sequel, HOOK’S REVENGE: THE PIRATE CODE, will follow in fall 2015. Bloomsbury Kids will publish her picture book debut, GIRAFFES RUIN EVERYTHING, in 2016.
