Mary Elizabeth Summer contributes to the delinquency of minors by writing books about unruly teenagers with criminal leanings. She has a BA in creative writing from Wells College, and her philosophy on life is “you can never go wrong with sriracha sauce.” She lives in Portland Oregon with her wife, their daughter, their scaredy-dog lab/pitbull mix, and their evil overlor—er, cat. Mary Elizabeth is represented by the incomparable Laura Bradford of the Bradford Literary Agency. Check out her Trust Me series.

I like pie. I mentally reorganize my closets when I’m trying to fall asleep. I’m an equal opportunity animal lover–I don’t discriminate among species. I’m a vegetarian–okay, pescetarian (there’s too much good sushi in the Portland area for me to resist). Anything with peanut butter in it is a win in my book. I drink an ungodly amount of coffee. Especially at my writing-spot of choice. I’m married to a high-powered attorney with her own law practice, so no one messes with me. And I have a daughter who loves Hello Kitty far more than she loves me, but I’m okay with that.

I grew up in Maryland (mostly). I went to a small liberal arts school in upstate New York. Then I moved to Colorado, where I met my wife at a Dar Williams concert. We relocated to Oregon for law school in 2004 and never looked back. I may technically be a transplant, but Portland is the city of my heart.

I drive a white Leaf that I named Storm Shadow because it’s silent like a ninja. I work full time as an instructional designer, meaning I create employee training on all sorts of subjects for whichever company I’m contracting for at the time. I spend what little free time I have watching TV, reading books, and harassing my cat. To really get to know me, follow me on Twitter.

FYI I’m totally into participating in any/all of the following (schedule permitting):

  • author signings
  • panels
  • speaking engagements
  • author meet-ups
  • school visits

If there’s an event you’d like me to consider, send the relevant details via my Contact Form, and I’ll respond as soon as I can!
